When Guidelines commentary was first broadcast in 1963, our sign-off was accompanied by the words of an old hymn, “Make Me a Blessing.” Then when Guidelines for Family Living was added in the 70s, we used an orchestrated version of “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” Both songs speak of what our objective and purpose has been over the years: Use the media to impact the lives of people around the world, bringing them into a relationship with Christ and teaching biblical principles for life and living.
Should you visit our offices and see the studio where radio programs are produced, you will see a simple sign on the wall which I read and voice as a prayer every time I record a message. It reads, “I do not ask that men may sound my praises or headlines spread my name abroad. I only pray that as I voice the message hearts may find God.”
Is God continuing to impact the lives of people through radio? Absolutely! Take for example the touching e-mail that came recently from a 13-year-old lad who wrote the following:
“I can feel my spiritual relationship grow by listening and following what you say.”
Although we at Guidelines are using books and publications, DVDs and teaching materials that are often translated into a variety of languages, the Internet, and even Facebook—yes, I’m doing Facebook as time allows—I am still persuaded that radio is one of the most powerful means of reaching masses of people with a personal message of God’s love and salvation.
September 2 marks our 47th year of continuous broadcasting. We are grateful for the relationship with groups such as Far East Broadcasting Company, HCJB Global, Bible Broadcasting Network, Moody Radio Network and faithful friends such those at WIHS Radio in Middletown, CT and Bruce Munsterman of KHCB in Houston, TX, along with hundreds of others who have been loyal friends and encouragers.
We are grateful for you who have faithfully supported Guidelines through good times and challenging times. Over the years we have held that Guidelines would remain entirely non-commercial with no pleas for money. Rather we would trust God to provide for us based on missionary Hudson Taylor’s dictum: “God’s work done God’s way will not lack God’s supply.” This is still our heart-felt conviction.
Thank you for your prayers, your ongoing financial support, and your encouragement! This newsletter will introduce you to some areas of outreach that may be new to you.
Yours and His reaching, teaching, and touching,
