Lives Changed in Philippine Slum

In an urban metropolis of 12.8 million people, it can be easy to get lost in the crowd, forgotten. In the most densely populated city in the world, it can be easy to feel alone and disconnected. And being one of the 4 million people living in slums, poverty and hopelessness can easily become… normal.

That’s what it’s like for those who live in a poor, inner-city community in the Barangay Valencia district of Metro Manila. When you’re literally one in millions who live in poverty, it can seem like you’ve been forgotten by the world, and forgotten by God.

Yet in the heart of this community and in the depths of despair, Jesus is unleashing his radical love. Joshua and Jessa lead our life-giving community center in the Barangay Valencia slum.

Children experience joy through kids’ programs that show them the goodness of God. Teenagers find belonging through youth meetings and come to know Christ and purpose for their lives. Young mothers receive compassion through special events where they are cared for physically and reminded of God’s unconditional love for them. Couples and families get support through discipleship groups where they are encouraged with Biblical teaching.

Joshua and Jessa don’t just serve in the community, they have grown up in it and have chosen to make their life there. Through your support, they are able to do the groundwork of meeting the physical and spiritual needs of people around them.

Where lives are broken and hurting, you can demonstrate the healing and restorative love of God.

Your donation will help bring the words of Jesus to those who need to hear hope, and empower our ministry leaders to care for those who need to feel love. It will empower our groundwork and media ministries in communities like Barangay Valencia in the Philippines and around the world.
