Feed On His Faithfulness

Encouraging Words

Speaker:

There’s a verse in Psalm 37 that says, “Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness” (NKJV).

“Feed on His faithfulness!” I like that phrase.  It infers that all our needs will be met because God is faithful to His promises.

Animals do this all the time.  They are totally dependent on God’s faithfulness to send rain and sunshine and nutrients to cause the plants to grow that they feed on.  If God was not faithful, their needs would not be met.  But—face it—neither would ours.

We are totally dependent on God to provide for our needs, not only physical but spiritual and emotional as well.  The Bible doesn’t say, “Feed on what God gives you.” It says “Feed on Who I am.” “Feed on My faithfulness.”  I need to think about that for a minute.  It’s actually far better for me to know who is supplying my needs than merely to see the needs being met, because He is a faithful God. The God who meets my needs has infinite knowledge of my needs and has an infinite supply to meet those needs. But beyond that, He loves me and will always be faithful to me. I can rest in His faithfulness.

There’s a bank in our neighborhood, and although I don’t know exactly how much money is deposited in that bank, it really doesn’t matter. The money there doesn’t do me any good because I don’t have an account in that bank. I don’t have a relationship with that bank at all.

But I have a Father in heaven who actually owns all the money in the world.  And I have a relationship with Him.  He has promised to meet all my needs. I can depend—yes, feed on His faithfulness.

Good news, isn’t it!
