Bible Text: Psalm 145:20, Isaiah 58:11 | Speaker: Darlene Sala | Series: Encouraging Words |

When our son became serious about rock climbing and backcountry skiing, we, his parents, became very serious about doing all we could to assure he would be safe. That’s when we bought him a GPS unit, a small hand-held device that would tell him his location virtually any place in the world. It helps a mom sleep better at night!

GPS stands for Global Positioning System, a space-based radio-navigation system consisting of a constellation of satellites and a network of ground stations used for monitoring and control. A minimum of 24 GPS satellites orbit the earth at an altitude of approximately 11,000 miles, providing users with accurate information on their position and speed anywhere in the world and in all weather conditions.

In practical terms, this means that when my son begins one of his adventures, he can set the GPS unit to record his starting location. Then when the fog rolls in, no matter how dense the whiteout, he can find his way back. The GPS unit tells him exactly where he is and guides him back to his starting point.

You know, God must smile at our scientific inventions. As wonderful as they are, they must seem like kindergarten toys to the One Who has all knowledge. The Bible says “From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind” (Psalm 33:13). “His eyes are on the ways of men; he sees their every step” (Job 34:21). “He does not take his eyes off the righteous” (Job 36:7).

How wonderful to know that God always knows where we are. As helpful as a GPS unit is, if the battery inside does not work, the unit is worthless. But God is always aware of exactly where we are. The Bible says, “The Lord watches over all who love him” (Psalm 145:20). “The Lord will guide you always” (Isaiah 58:11). Let that thought encourage you.
