Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. 1 Chronicles 29:11

A popular business publication states that people feel helpless and out of control in this post-Covid world. It’s true, but what can we do about it?

Learn to be resilient, focus on what you can control, look on the positive side, cultivate confidence.[1] That’s the advice we’re offered. Those are nice concepts, but I can’t see “the positive side” when I’m gripped with anxiety over war, suffering, injustice, terror or inflation.

I need a rock-solid foundation in these times, and that’s found in the God of the Bible. Scripture declares, that at no time in history, has this world been out of His control. In troubled, anxious times, its critical to know who God really is. A man named David in the Bible knew God well; he was called “a man after God’s own heart” (Acts 13:22).

David praised God for His dominion over everything, writing: “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things…you rule over everything” (1 Chronicles 29:11).

To make it personal, everything includes your safety, needs, family and your future. “Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength,” David concluded (1 Chronicles 29:12).

Remembering who God is and how much our great God loves us, is our firm foundation, our source of rest, consolation and comfort when the world feels out of control.
