For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  Luke 12:34

Jesus talked to people about money. To a man identified as a rich, young ruler He said, “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven” (Mark 10:21).

Jesus spoke about money to his disciples saying, “So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes. Your treasure will be safe; no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it (Luke 12:32-33).

Jesus talked to a prosperous businessman who tore down his barns to build bigger ones and called him a fool, because he didn’t realize that he’d die rich, but spiritually impoverished.

Jesus taught that the more you give away, the more you have eternally–riches which you can never lose.  He said that the more you give, the larger the measure of what God gives back to you.  Jesus taught, “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back” (Luke 6:38).

Jesus didn’t mean, “Give to get,” like some TV preacher, but described the personal transformation that happens when you let loose of what you have the tightest grip on.
