Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? Romans 2:4

Have you ever seen the power of kindness in action? There’s nothing that works faster or better to bring hurt or angry people back into loving relationship.

Maria lived on the streets of Mozambique; she’d seen the worst of humanity, all before the age of 12. When Maria was eventually placed in an orphanage, the social worker handling her case said she felt sick after hearing just a little of what life had been like for the girl. No wonder Maria was angry and often cruel.

But a year later, Maria met Jesus and day by day, she was changing. Her small, hardened face was now radiant with happiness. Maria told her social worker about meeting Jesus. In a happy, hushed whisper Maria said, “He is the kindest One I know. He is always saying kind things to me. He is always showing me the kindness He thinks about others. Everything about Him heals my heart.”

The Bible tells us that one of the most beautiful parts of Jesus’s nature is His kindness. It’s so powerful it can draw the most hurt and hardened heart to God. The Bible points out: “Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you…Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?” (Romans 2:4)

Nothing can unravel our anger, heal our hurt, and disperse our doubt like Jesus’s tenderness. It turns us from sin and toward God. We see what God, willing to die in our place, is really like, how He feels about us, and how He has pursued us even when we hated him. As Maria said, “Everything about him heals our hearts.”
