This High Priest of ours [Jesus] understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:15-16

Ever feel like you’ve walked a long road and wished you had a friend who could understand everything you’ve ever been through?

One of the hardest things about the pain each of us has experienced, is that it often isolates us. Katia had suffered many miscarriages; after losing seven babies, she felt incredibly alone. Not only was she mourning the loss of these children and the dream of becoming a mother, but she just couldn’t explain the depth of grief to her friends and family. She felt alone.

The Bible tells us that there is someone who does understand and has been there for all of your journey. Jesus lived a fully human life, born to a disgraced mother in poverty, in a nation under oppressive rule. He experienced life’s joys and losses, pain, betrayal, and even death, so that He could empathize with us in our weakness and struggles.

When you come to Jesus, you aren’t just approaching a perfect God who loves you–He is also an empathetic God who understands you. The Bible book of Hebrews puts it this way, “[Jesus] understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most” (Hebrews 4:15-16).

God is perfect where we are not, so He can help us overcome. But He understands suffering intimately, and responds to our weakness with tenderness.

Today, let this give you the courage to seek Him out just as you are, asking for forgiveness, help, or His nearness.
