Then I went into your sanctuary, O God, and I finally understood the destiny of the wicked. Psalm 73:17

It had been stashed away behind the refrigerator in the garage for 10 years. Daniel needed physical evidence of his father’s cruelty. But now truly free, he got that horse whip out, and threw it away.

What enables people to move forward in their lives when great harm has been done to them by another? Perhaps you’ve been told to forgive and forget, but you may be surprised to know that this is not God’s way. No, God does not ask you to carry the wrong done to you and He does not ask you to forget about it or to say, “it was ok.”

Search Scripture and see that, “God watches how people live; he sees everything they do. No darkness, is thick enough to hide the wicked from his eyes” (Job 34:21-22).  God knows exactly what happened to you, even if no other person does.

Despite what it looks like today, in the middle of the story that God is writing in your life, evil will not go unpunished. “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God.  Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable,” Scripture says (Hebrews 4:13).

“At the set time that I appoint I will judge with equity,” God says in Psalm 75:2.  Because there is an actual set time for judgment of the wrong done to you, you can unload the evildoer you’ve been carrying and trust God to do exactly what’s needed. You can experience the freedom that believing God brings, like Daniel did.  You can be, as Abraham was, “fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised” (Romans 4:20-21).
