You Can Believe in God and Still Not Know Jesus

For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6

What if believing in God for a lifetime still isn’t the same as knowing Him?

Agim is a schoolteacher in a small Macedonian community. These days, though, he’s the one learning something new. He shared that he’s discovering truths he never understood before. Raised Eastern Orthodox, Agim says he’s always believed in God. But that belief was mostly a matter of tradition, something he had inherited. “I always thought of God as being distant,” he shared, “That’s the way I was taught.” Then Agim started listening to short, Scripture-based devotionals on a Christian radio station, and light began to dawn for him.

The Bible says that each of us is “… unable to see the glorious light of the Good News” on our own. “[We] don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God” (2 Corinthians 4:4b). But God never leaves us in darkness. The Bible explains that the God, “who said, ‘Let there be light in the darkness,’ has made this light shine in our hearts so that we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6).

For Agim, radio devotionals became the conduit of that light. They carried God’s Word into his heart, a place that had stayed dark for years, one short lesson at a time, until Agim could finally see Jesus for who He is. Agim now understands that Jesus wants a personal relationship with him, not just his belief. Agim’s radio is on every day now. He’s listening, eager to learn more, and says that he is coming to know Jesus better and better.
