Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” Hebrews 13:5
Have you ever searched everywhere for your glasses only to discover they were right on your head?
Sometimes the problem isn’t that something is lost. Like those glasses, you just don’t realize they’re already there. In the same way, many people long to experience God’s presence. They imagine it as a powerful feeling or a dramatic answer to prayer. While God can work in those ways, Scripture often describes God as quietly near.
A woman named Melissa had recently moved to a new city. Between work, unpacking boxes, and learning unfamiliar streets, she felt lonely and overwhelmed. One morning, she took a walk through a nearby park. As she watched children playing, listened to the birds singing, and felt the cool breeze on her face, she found herself thanking God for these simple gifts. Nothing miraculous happened. Yet she returned home with a growing awareness that God had been with her.
A man named David once prayed, “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?” (Psalm 139:7 NIV). The answer, of course, is nowhere. God’s presence with us isn’t something we can earn. Through relationship with Jesus, we’re invited to live with the confidence that God is near. This is God’s promise, written in the Bible: He says, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you” (Hebrews 13:5).
One way to grow in your awareness of God with you is to pause throughout the day and simply ask, “God, where are You already at work around me?” You may begin noticing His fingerprints in conversations, acts of kindness, moments of beauty, and daily provision. God is closer than we realize. Sometimes we just need to slow down long enough to notice.
