Hana was scrolling on her phone one afternoon. A post appeared that caught her attention. She didn’t know then that it would change her life.
Here’s Hana’s story in her own words: “I became a Christian a few years ago, and my life began to take a completely different direction. I grew up in a broken family. My father was an alcoholic, my mother found comfort in white magic, and we struggled economically. Because of my family’s reputation, I also experienced rejection from my friends. One day, a post from an online Christian radio station appeared on my social media feed. I began to listen and I couldn’t stop! I discovered a Guidelines devotional, which gave me spiritual and practical advice and a whole new perspective on faith and relationships.”
Hana began texting the radio station, having conversations with the staff. They invited her to visit a Christian church. She’d never been to one before. Christian churches are few in her country. At that church, Hana experienced something she’d rarely known in her life: the love of others.
The Bible calls followers of Jesus to “be devoted to one another in love” (Romans 12:10a NIV), and that’s exactly how that group of believers treated Hana. “I became part of a Christian community where I experienced God’s love and the love of people for the first time in my life,” she shared.
Deciding to follow Jesus came at a cost. “My family will not take me back because of my decision to follow Jesus. [But] the leaders and believers have been taking care of me ever since.” God has given Hana a new family.
