And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:32
Ali was just a teenager when something unexpected caught his eye—and redirected his life.
Ali studied taekwondo with a Korean instructor. Visiting his instructor’s home one day he noticed a Bible on the table—a rare thing to find in Ali’s country. The two started talking. That day happened to be a religious holiday involving the sacrifice of lambs. When his instructor asked him about it, Ali realized that he didn’t know his own religion.
Ali began studying and praying five times a day. Then he moved in with a group of men who were radicalized. “They were true followers,” Ali reasoned. But there, finding judgment instead of the love he saw in his Christian friend, Ali felt confused and empty.
One night he watched a film about Jesus. The Bible says, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). The truth reached Ali as he watched. He recalls, “I cried, and I became Christian.” When he told his Korean friend, they prayed together, and Ali said he felt a burden lift from his heart.
Ali’s new faith was costly. His brother broke his nose and then showed up at Ali’s home church with a knife, threatening to kill everyone. Ali said, “Ok, but let us worship first.” During the service, something shattered inside that brother—he dropped the knife, fell to his knees, and cried out, “I am a sinner. Please pray for me!” In time, Ali’s entire family became followers of Jesus.
Today, Ali shares the hope he found in Jesus with people across his country through a radio and online ministry.
