May you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Ephesians 3:18-19

“Jesus loves you,” a man shared with his friend while riding a bus. “What does that even mean?” the man replied.

How can we possibly understand the love of God, let alone explain it? The Bible admits that the God’s love is too great for us to fully understand! (Ephesians 3:18-19) But in that same passage it says, “May you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully.”

Like the man on the bus, we’re probably all asking, “How can I experience a love that I can’t even understand?”

Here’s how the questioner’s friend on the bus responded: “Every day I experience my weaknesses and limits. I can’t function on less than a good night’s sleep. I can only get so much done in a day. Under pressure, I give way to frustration. But even with all these weaknesses, I comfort my son when he wakes with a nightmare at 3am. I work two jobs to buy him clothes and send him to the best school I can afford. I stayed up half the night building a bike for his birthday! If I, as a limited, imperfect man can love like this, how much more does a perfect, unlimited God love me?”

Experiencing God’s love is transformative, especially when we realize it’s unconditional—more so than even the best of our fathers. God’s love isn’t based on what we do but on who God is and who we are to Him.

Though you can’t comprehend just how much He loves you, may you experience the love of God today, as you never have before.
