God in Our Mess: Why Jesus Stepped Into Our Broken World
So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. John 1:14
When Manuel first heard about Jesus, he didn’t expect a God who’d step into our mess.
Why would an all-powerful God step into our weakness, pain, and limitations? When we talk about God becoming human in Jesus, we call it the incarnation and that word means “in the flesh.” It describes God becoming human in Jesus. God wanted to get a message to us, but He didn’t just send a message—He became the message. He was God Himself, stepping into our world.
Jesus didn’t come as a king in a palace, but as a baby in a poor family, in a small town. Scripture tells us, “Though he was God … he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a servant” (Philippians 2:6-7).
Why? Because love meets us where we are. God didn’t wait for us to reach Him—He came to us. He experienced hunger, exhaustion, rejection, and grief, just like we do. That means He understands what it’s like to be you.
Second, Jesus came to show us God. If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus. He said, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). Through Jesus, we see that God is compassionate, forgiving, patient, and full of truth. Jesus touched lepers, fed the hungry, and welcomed sinners. He wasn’t just teaching about God—He was showing us God.
Jesus became human then took our place in death so we could live forever with Him. This is the foundation of our hope. Today, God isn’t far away—He has stepped into your world, your suffering, and your story. Because love meets us where we are.
