The Lord is good and does what is right; He shows the proper path to those who go astray. Psalm 25:8
We’ve all had that sinking feeling—the one where your stomach twists—because you know you’ve messed up.
For Joel, it started with a small lie at school, just to impress his friends. But one lie led to another. Soon, he couldn’t sleep. He kept replaying the situation in his mind, anxiety building like a storm.
For Ana, it was hiding her growing shopping debt from her husband. Each month she hoped to “fix it” before he found out. The more she covered it up, the heavier and heavier the secret became.
Mistakes can feel like quicksand—the more you struggle to bury them, the deeper you sink. But failing to be honest doesn’t mean you’re worthless. God does call us to holiness. But knowing we were trapped in sin, He sent Jesus—our way back to mercy and restoration. The Bible’s Psalms say, “The Lord is good and does what is right; He shows the proper path to those who go astray” (25:8).
There’s a voice—inside or around you—that whispers, “If you tell the truth, your life will fall apart.” But God says, “Come to Me. Let’s make it right together.”
So how do we start? First is owning our failure—with honesty, and without excuses. This takes courage, but it also sets us free from the heavy burden of hiding. Then, we bring the truth out into the light. We apologize, making things right with those we’ve been untruthful with.
Skipping these difficult steps is like painting over rust—the damage resurfaces unless you address it. God makes crooked things straight. His mercy is new today. You can step into that light, begin again, and walk in truth.
