Bible Text: Philippians 3:20 | Speaker: Darlene Sala | Series: Encouraging Words | Armin Gesswein was a godly man known for prayer. He not only led the prayer support for some of Billy Graham’s early crusades, but he spent almost his entire lifetime teaching and preaching about prayer—and praying!

Part of his life Armin spent ministering in Norway and, in fact, he married a beautiful Norwegian girl whose name was Reidun. Drinking coffee must be part of the culture in Norway, for Armin and Reidun truly enjoyed cups of hot, strong coffee.

They’re both with the Lord now, but I often exchange emails with their daughter, Carol. In one exchange I mentioned that it would be great if we could get together for a cup of coffee. Since she lives many miles from where I live and we’re seldom together, I casually added—“Maybe in heaven? Or do they drink coffee in heaven?”

She wrote me back, “Well, my Dad sure loved his coffee, and since there’s no unhappiness in heaven, there must be coffee in heaven!”

I wish we could peak into Heaven and see what it’s like. I’d love to look in on what my parents are doing there. After they went to be with the Lord, I found myself asking the Lord to tell them about the good things that happen that I’m sure they would want to know about—things that would bring them joy. I’m certain they couldn’t know about the sorrows or there would be sorrow in Heaven—which, of course, there isn’t.

The Bible says, “Our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Phil. 3:20). Peter says there’s “an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade–kept in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:4). John added, “No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face. And they will reign for ever and ever” (Rev. 22:3-5).
