Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. 1 Peter 3:15

Perfect words aren’t needed to answer this call—just a life that makes people want to ask why?

All year long, Maya had prayed for her college roommate. She hadn’t preached, she just lived her faith—reading the Bible, showing kindness, apologizing when she made mistakes. Her roommate had never seemed interested in conversations about faith.

But one night, after a hard phone call with her parents, Maya’s roommate sat down and said, “Can I ask you something? Why do you still seem at peace when things fall apart for you?” Maya paused, then smiled. “It’s not me,” she said. “It’s Jesus.” Maya’s story wasn’t about having it all together, it was about where she turned when she didn’t. Whenever she struggled, she brought it to Jesus.

Sometimes we expect that sharing about hope in Jesus needs to happen in one conversation—one perfect speech, or something like a sermon. But often, it begins with a relationship—a friendship built on trust, respect, and consistent love over time. And crisis is often the door of opportunity to talk. No, telling someone about the hope you have in Jesus isn’t about having perfect words or all the answers. It’s about being present and ready to talk when the moment comes. “If someone asks about your hope as a believer,” the Bible says, “always be ready to explain it” (1 Peter 3:15b). God always equips His messengers. He says, “I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say,” (Exodus 4:12)

So, let’s do friendship well and pray with expectation. Who is the friend you’re thinking of right now? When they ask, are you ready to simply explain why you have hope and Who gives that hope to you?
