My message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the [God’s] Spirit. I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God. 1 Corinthians 2:4-5
JangMi had always struggled to understand the differences between various religions. Maybe you have too.
All religions claim to follow the true prophet or God. Some even claim there are millions of gods! “How does anyone know what the truth is?” JangMi wondered. Whenever he met someone religious, he would ask what made their beliefs meaningful.
Some claimed religion gave them a moral compass or connection to their community, but it was a Christian woman on a train who gave JangMi the most compelling answer. “Jesus has filled my life with joy. Knowing Him has been like turning on a light in a dark room,” she said. The woman didn’t offer intellectual arguments or try to persuade JangMi with fear.
JangMi had no idea he could know God like that. Becoming a Christian isn’t about being convinced by wisdom or words, although the Bible offers a compelling case. Becoming a Christian means you’ve met Jesus, experienced His presence and peace, and decided to follow Him, if it costs you everything else.
Even one of the most brilliant followers of Jesus said in the Bible book of 1 Corinthians, “My message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of [God’s] Spirit. I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God” (I Corinthians 2:4-5).
Deep discussions and probing questions are very important—if you’re searching for God, keep seeking! But what starts the journey of following Jesus is far more than an intellectual argument. Ask Jesus to meet with you today.
