I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself. Jeremiah 31:3b

Her mother named her Miracle because she was never expected to live.

All her life, Miracle has been reminded of just what her mother thought of her, of how special and valued she was. You see, Miracle’s father was abusive, so abusive that in order to protect her baby from physical harm, Miracle’s mother had constantly worn a binding girdle during her pregnancy. When her time came to give birth, Miracle’s mom fled to the city. There, the doctor said she’d be stillborn, but she arrived, healthy and full of life. She was a miracle. Miracle’s mother gave her a name that celebrated her with life-long wonder. Her wise mother knew the power of a name to give identity, to tell a person’s story.

God says that He knows your name. If you’re a follower of Jesus, He says, “I have called you by name; you are mine” (Isaiah 43:1b). He even says that He has given you a name that celebrates how He feels about you. That name is Beloved—in fact, My Beloved. He says, “I will call them ‘My People’ who are not My people, and I will call her ‘My Beloved’ who is not My beloved” (Romans 9:25 BSB). The Bible tells us that God loves all the world (John 3:16) but those He calls Beloved are those who have relationship with Him through Jesus. To you, Beloved, He says, “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself” (Jeremiah 31:3).

Jesus-follower, every time you call on Him, He remembers that you’re His Beloved. When you desperately need guidance, He remembers that you’re His Beloved. Even when you fail, He remembers that you’re His Beloved. Your name celebrates your eternally, unfailingly loved condition.
