Making Beautiful Music

Bible Text: Romans 8:28 | Speaker: Darlene Sala | Series: Encouraging Words | When the great composer Mendelssohn was visiting the cathedral at Friedburg, Germany, he heard the magnificent sounds of the great organ there. He went up to the loft and asked permission to play it. The old organist at first refused but was finally persuaded. After listening with delight and amazement to the glorious music, the old man laid his hand on the shoulder of the inspired musician and exclaimed, “Who are you? What is your name?”

“Mendelssohn,” replied the player.

In utter wonder the organist responded, “And can it be that I so nearly refused to let the great Mendelssohn touch this organ!”

Control is such an issue with most of us. How many of us hesitate to let the God of the universe have full access to the keyboard of our lives! We want God’s blessing. But we hesitate to get off the organ bench and let Him control the music of our lives.

When will we learn that God wants only the best for us! The Bible is full of verses that tell us this. Listen to these: “No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly” (Psalm 84:11 KJV). “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” (James 1:17). “Taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8). “Those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.” (Psalm 34:10). “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11). “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).

With promises like these, how can we afford to run our own lives? We’d be fools to try, when the Master is waiting to bring music from the instrument of our lives.
