No evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet! The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name.” Psalm 91:10,13-14

It was the dead of winter in Mongolia. Deborah and her children were facing homelessness, but a Bible verse about lions and cobras gave her peace.

Deborah shared her story with the Christian radio station she listens to. She wrote, “My landlord turned up suddenly and demanded that we vacate our apartment. We were shocked; it is hard to find rental apartments during the wintertime—especially when we have two small children.”

But the day before, Deborah had listened to a short devotional on Psalm 91. “I remembered the teachings about comfort and protection in times of suffering that said, ‘No evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!’ The Lord says, ‘I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name’” (Psalm 91:10,13-14).

Deborah realized something that can encourage us all. “Before, I had always been impatient and demanding answers from God,” she admitted, “but now I knew that God already had a plan for me. I learned that it is better to wait for God’s timing, and those verses spoke directly to my situation. The answer to overcoming these three formidable creatures is a relationship with God that is your assurance against the serpents and the lions of life. God is your place of refuge, a place of security to which you can run when threatened by the lion or stung by the serpent.”

A week later, the family found a new apartment, and a few months after that, secured a mortgage to purchase their own apartment.
