For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. Colossians 1:19-20

If you think that Jesus Christ came to earth to save you, think again.

The gospel is the story of the man who was both fully God and fully man. It’s the story of his life, death and resurrection. Yes, Jesus did give Himself to be offered as a payment for your sin so that you can have peace with God and hope forever. But the gospel is even bigger than just you or me.

One writer explains, “We’ve minimized and narrowed what is big and comprehensive … [Jesus] came to save [us]” but He also “came to defeat sin and death and reclaim … creation—which includes [us].”

Through Jesus’s death and resurrection, we are saved, creation is renewed, and a final end is set for evil. “Again and again in the stories about Jesus we find confrontation with evil and with evil ones. Jesus announces and is advancing a kingdom, a reign, a new authority.”[1]

The Bible puts it like this: “For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross” (Colossians 1:19-20).

The death and decay that we see in our physical world, the wicked and vile things we sometimes see in humanity, and the evil operating in the spiritual world that we can’t see—have all been defeated by Jesus. Today, when you’re shocked and dismayed by the news, think about the absolute power of Jesus! When you follow Him, you have the assurance that all that is wrong will be made right, in Him.
