I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me” (Isaiah 46:9b NIV).

Here’s the claim: You can have it. You can be it. You can do it. Just attract your desires by putting your will and your positive intentions out into the universe.

It’s called the Law of Attraction—it’s the idea that you can create or manifest, the dream life that you want. It’s all over the internet. Even companies like Google have brought in self-proclaimed “spiritual leaders” to share their methods for making it happen for yourself.

Think this sounds new and fresh? It’s the oldest lie in the book…literally. The first book of the Bible teaches that, in the beginning God provided everything man could ever want—except the ability to be like God (Genesis 3). But that’s exactly what we wanted. We grabbed for it then, and we’re still grabbing now.

The Lie of Attraction comes straight from Satan. Satan says, “There are no limits to what you can attract.” God says in scripture that He, and only He, “gives both death and life.” He says that He “makes some poor and others rich; he brings some down and lifts others up…no one will succeed by strength alone” (I Samuel 2:5-6,9b). “I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me” (Isaiah 46:9b NIV).

Jac Marino, a former new age and occult practitioner says: “Manifesting basically makes you a co-creator with God and makes you think that you’re all powerful. It says, ‘I’m actually in control.” Marino points out: “Manifesting has deep, dark occult roots. It’s watered it down to sound alluring…But even in its watered-down state, it is rebellion against God because it makes us God.”[1]

Don’t fall for the Lie of Attraction.
