And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Romans 8:38a
No life is too broken, too hardened, or too far gone for God’s love to find its way in.
The Bible says that “nothing can ever separate us from God’s love” (Romans 8:38a). This story of God’s love reaching a drug dealer powerfully reminds us of this truth.
Al is a pastor in a rough part of his city with drug deals taking place on the edge of church property; he was told that dealers planned to kill him. One day as he was preaching, a drug dealer entered the back of the church. After the service, the visibly furious man approached him, accusing the church of disrupting his life. Quickly praying for help, Al heard God say, “You need to pray for his hip.” Al interrupted the man, saying, “I think the Lord wants you to know we need to pray for your hip.” The man suddenly stopped talking. “No, there’s nothing wrong with my hip,” he muttered, and wandered off.
After that Al watched his back. But one day, in an alleyway, he bumped straight into the man. “How did you know that I’ve got something wrong with my hip?” demanded the man. “I’ve never told anybody.” “Here’s the deal,” Al responded. “God really loves you. He’s got a soft spot for you, and He probably wants to heal you because He loves you.” Keeping his eyes open, Al prayed for the man, asking God to heal him then quickly ran off.
Days later, the man approached Al with two friends. “My hip has [gotten] better! Tell them what you told me!” And so began a chain reaction of God’s love and healing.[1]
God has a soft spot for you too. His love can break through whatever situation you’re in today.
