“To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?” asks the Holy One. Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing. Isaiah 40:25-26

What comes to your mind when you think about God?

Maria imagines God like a strict schoolteacher—always watching, ready to punish and mostly ignoring those who follow the rules. Pulang isn’t even sure if God exists, but if He does, Pulang assumes He’s distant and uninterested. Others see God as a helper, a protector—someone who is only there when things go wrong.

“What comes to our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us,” suggests one author. That single thought shapes how we pray, how we trust and how we walk through life’s difficulties.

Many people say they believe in God—but what kind of a God is he? A judge waiting for us to fail? A divine helper on standby? However we see Him—whether small and passive, or grand and powerful—our view of God shapes how we live.

In the Bible book of Isaiah, God asks: “‘To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?’“ Then He says, “Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing” (Isaiah 40:25–26). That same God is also described as the Shepherd—gathering His people in His arms and carrying them close to His heart (Isaiah 40:11).

So, what does this mean for you? It means that when you pray, you are speaking to the One who commands galaxies—yet He hears you. When you feel weak, He never grows tired (Isaiah 40:28). And for all His greatness, He is deeply interested in every detail of your life.

Take time today to pause and ask: Who do I believe God really is?
