The Two Essentials for Finding Favor With God and Man

Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation. Proverbs 3:3-4

Think back to your school days. Did you ever write a cute classmate’s phone number on your hand so you wouldn’t forget it?

We can get into a lot of trouble if we forget things that are critical to remember– Like your wallet! Having to leave all your purchases at the store because you forgot your wallet is miserable.

There are two things that God has told us to never forget. He explained in the Bible book of Proverbs that we should always remember loyalty and kindness– two attributes we need every day, no matter where we’re going or what we’re doing. God gave these words to Solomon, the wisest man ever, who wrote in Proverbs, “Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation” (Proverbs 3:3-4).

What does loyalty and kindness look like? Kindness means that wherever you are and whoever you’re talking to, you never lose sight of the need to treat the people around you with consideration and respect—yes, even when someone is rude, lies about you, cheats you or cuts you off in traffic! Loyalty means that we understand how to honor God, people, and commitments with a clear understanding of priorities and integrity.

What will all this loyalty and kindness get you? God says this is how we find favor with both people and God. As He is kind and cares for us, God loves it when we show that same kindness and care to those around us.

Ask God to remind you to keep loyalty and kindness ever in your mind. Write them on your hand if you have to!
