The Word of God is True
After God created the first man and woman, Adam and Eve, He placed them in the beautiful Garden of Eden to watch over it.
But the Lord God warned [Adam], “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die” (Genesis 2:16-17).
One day [the serpent, who was actually the devil,] asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” …. The woman replied, “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat.’”
“You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”
There you have the first lie mentioned in the Bible.
The woman … saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious…. So, she took some … and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, … and he ate it, too. At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness.” (Genesis 3:1-7 NLT).
“With diabolic cunning the devil came into the garden and persuaded Eve that the word of God was not true. That was the blackest lie the devil ever told. If he can get you to believe that the Word is not true his work is done.”[1] He will try to get you to doubt God’s promises. When he does, remember that Jesus warned us, “The devil… is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44 NLT). But put your trust in God’s Word and you will never be disappointed.
