O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge. Psalm 62:8

Can you bring your doubts, anger, and confusion to God?

Ji sat alone on his balcony, watching the rain fall. It had been weeks since he lost his wife— weeks of numbness, silence, and an ache so deep he didn’t know if it would ever stop. That evening, the weight finally broke him. Ji cried out to God—with angry, raw and honest words that felt more like a wrestling match than a prayer. But as he sat in the rain, something shifted. God wasn’t scolding or distant. He was there, grieving with Ji, present in Ji’s pain. And though Ji couldn’t explain it, he felt less angry. He felt heard.

The Bible tells the story of a man named Jacob. His reckoning with God wasn’t peaceful either. It wasn’t a polite surrender—it was a wrestling match. Jacob had spent his life deceiving others and trying to force outcomes. But one night—alone and desperate—Jacob physically wrestled with God. He brought his opinions, personality, and pain into that fight. But God didn’t push him away. Jacob walked with a limp from that night forward. But he had received God’s blessing.

When we’re facing loss, confusion, or our own stubbornness, sometimes we need to wrestle it out with God. He welcomes our doubts, our rage, our grief. He meets us in the dark night of the soul and stays until morning breaks.

Scripture encourages us like this: “Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge” (Psalm 62:8). Even in your darkest night, the only place to go is to Him. So, bring your struggle. You can come limping, weeping, even yelling—He won’t turn you away.
