Give your burdens to the Lord, and He will take care of you. Psalm 55:22

Are you a “worst-case warrior,” constantly running through the “what if” possibilities of life in your mind?

Anxiety often disguises itself as preparation, but in reality, it traps us in fear. It’s easy to fall victim to the lie that peace is only possible if we have absolute control over the future.

A new mother named Lila felt herself slip into this kind of thinking as she imagined all the ways her newborn could get hurt. But years later when her children were teenagers, Lila still found herself constantly thinking like this. No matter how much she prepared, she never felt at peace. Exhausting, never-ending worry!

Worrying about the future isn’t just exhausting—it’s paralyzing. One sleepless night, overwhelmed by uncertainty, Lila realized something: Her trust had always been in her own ability to control outcomes, not in God’s care. Jesus said, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself” (Matthew 6:34). We don’t ignore the future, but we look ahead with wisdom and trust. God says, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you” (Isaiah 41:10). Here’s what scripture says is our part: “Give your burdens to the Lord, and He will take care of you” (Psalm 55:22). The truth is, our fears can’t change the future—but faith in God can change how we live today.

If worry has taken hold of your thoughts, shift your focus. Instead of, “What if everything goes wrong?” say, “What if God is already making a way?” Instead of, “I don’t know what’s coming,” remind yourself, “God is already waiting for me in my future.”

What would change if you lived that out today?
