So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. John 8:36
She’s a business owner and sole support of her family. But she’s not allowed to believe in anything other than the faith she was born into.
What does it mean to grow up in a village where there’s no freedom of thought, no opportunity to choose your faith or freedom to worship?
Nertila is a mother of three children. Those children depend on her alone for everything. To provide, she operates a small tailoring business. Those hours at work are the highlight of her life and it’s all because of a small blue FM radio. The radio was a gift from a Christian radio station whose signal reaches her village. Because of that radio, Nertila has come to know Jesus and learned of true freedom—the freedom that the Bible says Jesus provides. The Bible book of John explains: “So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free” (John 8:36).
Nertila explains: “I listen to the radio everyday while I’m working in my business. Even some of my employees are greatly interested to listen with me. I receive hope through the programs, and I understand that my freedom rests in Jesus not in my circumstances. Even though my family is not supportive of me following the Christian teachings and advice, my heart is only open to such lessons.”
When Nertila and her employees listen together to truth from God’s Word, He is with them (Matthew 18:20). Scripture explains that “ … the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (2 Corinthians 3:17).
In any set of circumstances, Jesus offers the only freedom that no one can take away.
