If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 ESV

We all have moments we wish we could hide, but sometimes those failures become turning points. That’s what happened when twelve-year-old Daniel broke his neighbor’s window.

Daniel has never forgotten when his ball went flying over his backyard fence and shattered his neighbor’s kitchen window. Terrified, he tried to sneak into her yard to get his ball and pretend nothing happened. But the neighbor had seen it all. Instead of yelling at him, she came out of her house smiling. “Daniel,” she said, “you owe me a window—but why don’t you come mow my lawn this summer and we’ll call it even?”

Week after week, Daniel pushed the mower in the blazing sun. At first, he grumbled, but over time, he realized something: she wasn’t punishing him, she was teaching him responsibility. She gave him dignity by letting him make it right. Years later, Daniel said it was one of the most important lessons of his life.

The Bible tells us that God treats us a bit like that. When we sin, He doesn’t crush us in judgment or cover it up and pretend it didn’t happen. He offers grace—the chance to turn around, take responsibility, and live differently. Scripture says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9 ESV).

No, grace doesn’t excuse sin but redeems it. And often, God uses the very places we’ve failed as the soil where He grows new strength and character in us.

So, here’s the question: what “broken window” from your life do you keep trying to hide? Bring it into the open today and get rid of it. God isn’t waiting with anger in His hands—He’s waiting with grace.
