Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105

Jin-ho had never seen a Bible. One day, someone slipped a small, worn page into his hand. Torn at the edges, it said, “The Gospel of John.”

Late at night, Jin-ho read that page under his blanket. At first, it was confusing. Who was this Jesus? What did it mean that He was called “the light of the world”? But as Jin-ho kept reading, something began to happen. It felt like the words were alive—not just teaching Jin-ho about God, but speaking directly to his heart and mind.

One of the Bible’s verses says, “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path (Psalm 119:105). That’s what the Bible is—not just a book of rules or stories, but a light for those walking in darkness. It reveals who God is, and it helps us understand who we are, too. The Bible also tells us that “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives … God uses it to prepare and equip His people to do every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16–17).

Jin-ho didn’t have a teacher or church to go to. But each night, the words he read seemed to reach into his heart. And he began to pray: “God, help me understand what You’re saying.” God always answers that prayer.

The Bible says, “The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple” (Psalm 119:130). If you’ve never read the Bible before, start small. Ask God to unfold His words to you. Because He still speaks—through His Word, through His Spirit, and to your heart.
