Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV

At the Kigonze refugee camp, the rows of plastic tents seem to go on forever. So does the suffering.

Marie sits with her aged mother and her children, but she cannot embrace them. She remembers, “They came to cut us … with their machetes; they came to kill us with their guns. I hate my life here. You can see that I don’t have my two arms. I can’t do anything without assistance. We are all vulnerable here in Kigonze.”[1]Reuters, “In Shadow of Conflict Nearby, Rebel Upsurge Hits Congo’s Ituri,” Reuters Connect, March 9, 2023, video, 5:00

The camp shelters over 17,000 people in dire conditions—people who fled attacks by militia—their stories are heartbreaking. But today, there’s a story of hope being told in Kigonze, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

When Ebola broke out, local ministers could no longer enter the camp. But believers around the world helped send in little missionaries that can’t catch Ebola—solar radios tuned to Rebuilder’s Radio—the local Christian station. “The radio comforts us and preaches peace,” the camp director says. “It unites us and brings joy! In the evenings, when we listen to these programs, we discuss them and that’s very important to us.”

The God of the Bible is called the God of all comfort. Scripture says He “ … comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV).

That comfort is reaching Kigonze, one broadcast at a time. These radios carry a message of hope from God’s Word into tents where so much has been stripped away. For families like Marie’s, they’re a reminder that they have not been forgotten.

You can give a radio that brings comfort like this to families around the world. Give a gift today at guidelines.org.
