If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. James 1:5

She says the universe is sprinkling signs everywhere and it sounds a lot like ChatGPT.

The attractive social media influencer leans into the camera and tells her followers: “If I notice something throughout my day that’s very out of the ordinary, I’ll just ask ChatGPT for the symbolic meaning—the spiritual symbolism of … like, seeing a hawk. See what the universe shows you. Take the messages the universe has for you and apply them to your life.”

That may sound like trendy, digital-age advice, but searching for spiritual meaning in what people have called “the universe” has been around forever. In the days of the Roman Empire, a man named Paul, writing in the Bible’s New Testament, described people by saying, “They don’t know where to find peace. They have no fear of God at all” (Romans 3:17-18).

The Bible warns us just as clearly today as it did back then: “Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ” (Colossians 2:8). “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God” (1 Corinthians 3:19a). God “ … has all wisdom and power” (Daniel 2:20). “He reveals deep and mysterious things” (Daniel 2:22a).

But it’s not God’s desire to keep us guessing. God delights in giving His wisdom to those who come to Him for it. “If you need wisdom,” the Bible book of James declares, “ask our generous God and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking” (James 1:5).

We’ll look almost anywhere other than God for wisdom to apply to our lives. But He stands ready to give it, to those who come to Him today. Just ask.
