Years of Patient Prayer and a Miraculous Answer
One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. Luke 18:1
Twenty long years. That’s how long Tiki Davis prayed for justice.
Jesus told a story about someone who needed justice and refused to stop asking for it. The Bible says Jesus wanted to show that we “… should always pray and never give up” (Luke 18:1-7). Tiki Davis’s life is a testament to the patient, persistent prayer Jesus calls us to.
Tiki is a successful entrepreneur and motivational speaker, but his life began with an absentee dad and a drug-addicted mom. As a teen, he found solace in a boys’ home, allowing him to play high school football and excel academically. However, Tiki’s life took a devastating turn when, the summer before his senior year, he was falsely accused of rape. Despite insufficient evidence, Tiki was advised to plead guilty to a lesser charge, resulting in a six-month jail sentence.
In jail, Tiki met and dedicated his life to God. “All I had was God,” he recalls. “I said, ‘God just see me through this! I [learned] great stories [in the Bible] of guys like David … where one day they were in the fields and the next day they were in the palace …. So I said, ‘He can do it for me!'”[1] Upon his release, Tiki began his life again, but was stunned two years later when a change in the law required him to register as a sex offender.
Distraught, Tiki prayed, “Remove this from my life, God!” And he kept on faithfully praying. Then one day, Tiki got a phone call—the woman who had accused him called to apologize and recant her testimony. His record was completely cleared!
Is there something you’ve just stopped praying about? Jesus says, “Don’t give up!” “My Father is always working, and so am I” (John 5:17).
