You Are Chosen for a Purpose
The opening verse of 1 Corinthians tells us that the apostle Paul was “chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus.” As I was reading this verse, suddenly the realization came to mind that all of us who have a relationship with Jesus have, like Paul, been chosen by the will of God for some specific purpose. No, we’re not all outstanding leaders in the Christian arena as Paul was. But God has still chosen us for a purpose. Whether you are a husband or wife, mother or father, teacher, farmer, businessman, salesperson or whatever, you have been chosen by the will of God for a specific purpose.
What gift do you have? What are you “good” at? That’s not an accident. God has given you that ability by an act of His will and for His purpose.
There is something about that thought that brings value and importance to whatever you have been given to do in life. Even washing dishes or pulling weeds from the garden, doing the job to the best of your ability (and without complaining!) can bring glory to God.
This week I want you to be aware as never before of the importance of the responsibilities God has given you. Whether it’s a secular job, a responsibility in ministry, or “just housework,” keep in mind that you have been chosen by the will of God to carry out that assignment. Remember that Jesus said in Matthew 10:42, “And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.”
“Now may the God of peace…equip you with all you need for doing his will.
May he produce in you through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him” (Hebrews 13:19-21).
