You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever. Psalm 16:11
An English rock and roll band once despaired, “I can’t get no satisfaction.” Have you ever felt the same?
The fashion blogger was young, wealthy and bored so she moved to the big city. “… the social scene is buzzing,” she shared, “My calendar is full and it’s impossible to be bored here … I’m booked and busy, energized and stimulated, curious and inspired. I needed a lifestyle overhaul, and that’s exactly what I got!”
Relationships, amusements, accomplishments. What do you look to for satisfaction and meaning in your life? If you find it, how long does it last? Our lifestyles and our very lives can change in an instant. Never mind boredom—tragedies of betrayal, illness, job loss and death, drop into our lives without notice.
The writer of the Bible’s Psalm 16 had found what he called the “way of life.” Speaking of God, he wrote, “You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever” (Psalm 16:11). God longs to show us His satisfying way, a joyful way of life that’s lived with Him in the here and now. The life He designed for us is one of pleasure that lasts forever.
To the unsatisfied in life, Jesus says, “‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty'” (John 6:35). You don’t need to move to a new city, find a new job or new friends. Your search for satisfaction can find its conclusion today with a simple prayer: God, show me Your way of life. I give up my way for Yours. Grant me the joy of Your presence and teach me the pleasures of living with You forever!”
