When the Chaos Doesn’t Stop—But the Panic Does

God our Savior … who stilled the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations. Psalm 65:5b,7 NIV

For Elena, war isn’t a distant headline—it casts a shadow of fear and uncertainty over her everyday life.

Living with uncertainty is exhausting. Elena says, “There are many moments when the weight of everything happening around us feels overwhelming. It feels like our old lives are just gone.”

For most of us, it’s hard to imagine living through armed conflict, where ordinary routines become uncertain. Perhaps you aren’t living through a war, but a test result has turned your world upside down, or your spouse has told you they love someone else. When panic takes over, where can you turn?

Elena’s answer is simple: “Only God can calm the chaos.”

The Bible often pictures chaos as a stormy sea. In a powerful storm, waves can rise as high as a three-to-five-story building. Your storm may look different from Elena’s, but the God who holds her is holding you. The Bible says, “You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still … the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations” (Psalm 65:7,89:9 NIV). God rules over every storm. He may not immediately change the circumstances around us, but He calms the panic within us.

For Elena, encouragement comes through short devotionals that faithfully remind her to step away from the noise and look to God. “Hearing your voices is an absolute lifeline,” she wrote to the people who produce the devotionals.
