There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear. 1 John 4:18a NIV

Sometimes coming to faith happens suddenly. But for many around the world, understanding and coming to know the loving God of the Bible is a journey.

For Nisa, a single mom raising a child in Thailand, life transformation is just beginning. She came across short, biblical devotional programs on the radio. As she listened day after day, over time, Nisa says she began to feel more confident and less afraid of what might happen in life. Each time she hears the programs, she feels as though God is near. That growing confidence enabled her to do something she’d been too afraid to do before: she called the radio station.

Nisa says the religion she was raised in only added to her fear rather than easing it. She lives alone with her child, and constant fear had kept her from reaching out for a long time. When the person who answered her call took the time to really listen, what stood out to Nisa was the way she was treated. “The staff gave me advice and recommendations like a friend would, like a sibling,” she shared. “This gave me even more confidence and comfort.”

The Bible book of 1 John gives an explanation for what’s taking place in Nisa’s heart. It says, “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear” (1 John 4:18 ESV). Only God’s love does that. In the voice of a follower of Jesus, Nisa is experiencing a taste of God’s love. That’s so often how God’s love arrives: gently, and through the people who show it.
