This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT
When a person follows Christ, the Bible tells that ” … they become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17). One woman’s journey brings that vividly to life.
Michelle was living a promiscuous lifestyle of partying and drugs that left her unsatisfied. Thinking that she must be a lesbian, she married another woman. One day a friend challenged her to read the Bible. When she read scripture, it seemed plain to Michelle that her lifestyle was wrong. She and her partner visited a church where the pastor said: “I [have] good news and bad news. The bad news is the Bible’s … clear [that] homosexuality is … a sin but the good news is that everybody who walks through our door is a sinner and Christ died for all those sins. If you want to walk with Christ, you are more than welcome to walk with us.”
The women joined in Bible study and listened to Christian radio programs. Then they each decided to follow Jesus in baptism. That day Michelle’s partner came to her saying, “I don’t know how to tell you this but I’m not a lesbian. I love you and you’re my best friend, but I don’t want to be that way with you ever, ever again. It’s gone.” Michelle replied, “Me too!” It was an immediate release.
Both women are moving forward in singleness. Michelle shares, “We … [have] a new identity in Christ! [We’re] trying to glorify God as best we can. I think it’s very, very important that we understand it’s about Christ. My God is big enough to handle anything you’ve done … Jesus has covered everything. It’s done.”
