The Lord says, ‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.’ Psalm 32:8
If God has a plan for your life, is it possible to miss it?
The story is told about a young, single woman who went to China as a missionary. After being there for seven years, she had the desire to be married. She prayed that God would choose a man for her, call him to be a missionary, send him straight to the part of China where she was—and propose! She prayed, yet she remained single her entire life. “I believe God answers prayer,” she explained. “He called [that man] … but he never came.”[1]
Was there a man in England who said no to God, or missed the message? How do we know what God wants us to do? In the Bible, God says, “‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you’“ (Psalm 32:8). So, God definitely has a good plan for each of us in mind—a path that will maximize the unique gifts and talents He created in us.
But how do we find that path? To followers of Jesus, one wise Christian said, “You have to put your feet on the floor. Being a Christian puts you under certain obligations … ‘You are the salt of the earth, the light of the world, my witnesses,’ Jesus said. You don’t need to pray about whether this is your job or not. As you seek honestly to do the things you’re sure about, God will show you the things you’re not sure about. We might as well admit that most of our difficulties are not with what we don’t understand but with what we do understand.”[2]
Is it possible to miss God’s plan for your life? Not if you’re seeking it. God has said, “I will guide, I will advise, I will watch over you.”
