You are the God who sees me. Genesis 16:13 excerpted

Have you ever felt completely invisible—even in a room full of people?

The security guard had been working at the university for years, waving at the students rushing by. One day, he was invited to a staff appreciation event. When introduced, one of the professors unthinkingly remarked, “I’ve never seen him before in my life.” The guard quietly replied, “I see you every day.”

Most of us have felt overlooked, unheard, or unseen at some point. Maybe you’ve felt invisible in a crowd, or in your own family when your needs are brushed aside. You might feel invisible at work if your efforts go unacknowledged or someone else takes credit for them. The ache of invisibility runs deep.

The Bible tells the story of a woman named Hagar, a servant who’d been cast aside, pregnant, alone and invisible in the wilderness. But in that desolate place, God met her. He saw her pain, heard her cries, and gave her a future. In wonder, Hagar called Him “El Roi,” meaning “the God who sees me” (Genesis 16:13 excerpted).

A wise man once wrote, “What matters supremely is not that I know God, but the larger fact which underlies it—the fact that He knows me.”[1] Wherever you are today, God sees you. He knows your name. And He’s not just watching from afar. Even when you feel invisible, you’re never invisible to God.

And as you grow in your realization that you are fully seen by God, you may find your eyes being opened to others. Ask God to give you His eyes for the invisible people in your path today.
