In The Nick of Time

Bible Text: Psalm 31:15 | Speaker: Darlene Sala | Series: Encouraging Words | She was at a point of desperation.  Life just wasn’t worth living any longer, so she made a decision. She climbed to where she could reach up to the rafters and looped a pair of pantyhose over a beam. Now she was ready to fasten them around her neck and jump.

But she had left her radio on, and the words of the speaker caught her attention. It was just a five-minute program. It’s called “Guidelines,” a program my husband has produced five days a week for more than 40 years. But the topic that day was—can you believe it–“What God Thinks of Suicide.”

Instead of jumping, the woman reached for her telephone and called the radio station.  The technician who was airing the program that day answered the phone call, and in the next few moments he led her to faith in Jesus Christ. Since that time she has visited the station, and it’s been confirmed–she is a changed person!

Think of the timing of that incident.  The program had been written several months earlier, for in order to meet programming deadlines, Harold usually writes them three months in advance of the airing date. Then the program had to be recorded. After that, a Guidelines volunteer listened to it to be sure there were no grammatical errors or technical blips. Then a CD had to be produced and mailed to the station.  Of course, there’s the fact that the technician chose to air that particular program on that particular day. And the program went on the air at exactly the time the woman was taking steps to end her life. That was no accident!

The Psalmist wrote, “My times are in your hands” (Psalm 31:15). Friend, you can know that God makes no mistakes concerning you, for He is a God of precision. The God who controls the timing of the universe can manage the timing in your life. Put your life in His hands and trust Him.
