Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. Hebrews 13:8

The Greek philosopher Heraclitus is credit with saying, “The only constant in life is change,” and who would argue with that?

When I was a young girl, my grandfather pastored a large, historic church, which I thought was incredibly grand. The church had stained glass windows, a huge balcony and a massive choir loft and orchestra pit, all capped by an immense domed ceiling painted pale blue, with fluffy white clouds. But most impactful on my young self was the painted lettering above the stage which read: “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever. Hebrews 13:8.” Life has changed since then, and keeps on changing at a faster and faster pace, but this truth stands firmer and truer than ever: life changes, but God does not.

The Psalms declare, “God, you remain the same, and your years will never end” (Psalm 102:27 NIV). There’s no expiration date on God’s power or His continued love for us and his invitation to come to Him for forgiveness, healing and life itself. If you’re a follower of Jesus, the bedrock of your life is God’s unchanging nature and the promise of His presence forever.

Sometimes, when pain shatters our lives, we may move away from Him, thinking Him unloving or unfaithful. But He has written our stories from beginning to end—never think His care for you has wavered in the middle of the story.

The very last book of the Bible says, “Grace and peace to you, from the one who is and who always was and who is still to come” (Revelation 1:4). Even in the storms of our lives and the tumult of our times, you can stand secure on God’s unchanging nature.
