Where is another God like you, who pardons the guilt of the remnant, overlooking the sins of his special people? You will not stay angry with your people forever, because you delight in showing unfailing love. Micah 7:18

Have you ever been in court? If you have, I’m guessing it might not have been a very pleasant experience.

Courtrooms contains judges, and judges can be just or unjust. The Bible tells that God is a judge and this idea leads a lot of us to think of God as scary and best kept at a distance.

We don’t like it when people judge us either. Like the woman hosting her friends for lunch who got up to get something from the other room. Before she returned, she overheard them talking badly about her, pointing out her weaknesses and flaws. She was hurt and outraged. Yes, few words trigger defensive anger and fear more than judgment.

But what of the God of the Bible–who sees our thoughts and hearts, who knows everything, and is called the Judge of the whole earth? (Genesis 18:25) He is not only, the only judge Who gives perfect justice, but He also loves mercy and embodies kindness! The Bible says, “Where is another God like you, who pardons the guilt of the remnant, overlooking the sins of his special people? You will not stay angry… forever, because you delight in showing unfailing love (Micah 7:18).

In Revelation, the final book of the Bible, when God is looking for someone worthy to judge the whole world, only Jesus, the one willing to die for all humanity’s sins, was worthy to be entrusted with judgment (Revelation 5). God doesn’t delight in harsh judgment, so He assigns the task of judgment to the One who loves showing mercy! Let this mystery fill your heart with confidence in Jesus. You can trust Him alone to be perfectly just and merciful.
