Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. Hebrews 7:25

 

Has there ever been someone in your life who really prayed for you?

 

Michael had a praying mother. He says he’s never forgotten those nights when he was in high school, coming home after midnight. As he passed his parents’ bedroom,  he could see his mom on her knees through the cracked door—and he knew she was praying for him. Those prayers would become part of his story when he surrendered his life and began to follow Jesus. Later, he knew her prayers were part of him hearing God leading him to become a pastor.

Did you know that Jesus, yes, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, prays for all those who come to God through Him? The Bible book of Hebrews says that Jesus is the One who can save us from the consequences of our sinful choices. “He is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him,” and it also says that “He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf” (Hebrews 7:25). Interceding means that Jesus is appealing in prayer to God, on behalf of His followers.

The Scottish minister Robert Murray M’Cheyne wrote: “If I could hear Christ praying for me in the next room, I would not fear a million enemies. Yet distance makes no difference. He is praying for me.”[1] One Jesus follower realizes that “Jesus doesn’t just make a way for me to hobble through life and make it to the end in one piece. His prayers for me, even now, make a way for me to stand straight, run, jump, dance and laugh in the face of death.”[2]

Jesus is praying for whatever fear, whatever lack, whatever impossibility you’re wrestling with right now. When you follow Jesus, He’s praying for you.
