For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Revelation 7:17

A young wife buries her face in her pillow after an evening of abuse; hot, silent tears soak her pillowcase. Her elderly neighbor has been to the nursing home that day to visit his wife.  She doesn’t recognize him, and the tears flow as he sits alone in front of a blaring TV. Then, just before midnight, a phone call wakes the mom and dad at the end of the street.  There’s been an accident and their young adult won’t ever be coming home again; their tears are anguished.

Does God see our tears?  Yes, says the Bible. “You keep track of all my sorrows,” a man named David wrote of God in Psalm 56. “You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book,” (Psalm 56:8).

God is aware of every hurt, every loss you have ever suffered.  He is not apathetic.  In fact, He came to earth and experienced all the pain we face, to save us.  Jesus cried even though He knew the end of the story would be better (John 11).  The Bible says, “Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears,” (Hebrews 5:7).

Revelation 21:4 promises, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore.” You do not cry alone. You have a heavenly Father who will hold you in His arms until the day He dries your tears forever.
