Start Going Deeper With Jesus Today

I heard it on TV…or maybe I read it on the Internet.  Honestly, I can’t remember the source.  But the quote has stayed me and has seriously influenced my thinking.  The author said this: “If you will focus on the depth of your life, God will take care of its width and length.”

This thought has great application to our lives, for surely the deeper we delve into an intimate relationship with God, the more He will broaden our opportunities to touch the lives of others.  An interesting verse in Isaiah 37:32 NIV says, “Once more a remnant of the kingdom of Judah will take root below and bear fruit above.” Do you get the picture? Root downward and fruit upward.

Most of us would like to feel at the end of life that we have had some influence in the lives of other people. We’d like to know that we’ve encouraged others and helped them. The way you can be sure that will happen is if you have rooted your life in your relationship with Jesus. Take time each day to read from His Word, the Bible. Take time throughout the day to have conversation with Him, which we call prayer. If you put your roots downward, God will see that fruit grows upward in your life. If you take care of the depth of your life with Jesus, He will take care of the breadth of your outreach.

And He will take care of the length of your life, for as someone has said, “You are invincible until God says ‘It’s time to come home.'” The length of our lives is in His hands.

Yes, take care of the depth of your life, and God will take care of the breadth and length!  Memorize that short line and let it inspire you to go deeper with Jesus.
