For He says, “In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.’ Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” 2 Corinthians 6:2 ESV

We are natural born seekers. Ask the parent of any 2-year old who’s had to answer “Why?” questions more times than you can count in a 24-hour period!

Long after we were two years old, we’ve kept wondering “Why?” Why am I here? Isn’t there more to life than what I’ve experienced? What we’re voicing in these questions is our deep longing for purpose, love, and an unknown and unnamed “more.”

Two young girls living in the Middle East had this same longing. What they’d been told about God didn’t satisfy the hunger in their hearts. And so, the girls began to write God letters, leaving them on their rooftop.

A few weeks later, they met a Jesus follower who told them about God’s great love for them. Everything about who Jesus is answered the questions they’d been asking for months. They learned that God created us out of longing, and so it’s intentional that we have a yearning inside our hearts for Him that only He can satisfy. God didn’t need anything when He made us– but He wanted us!

The Bible says that “We love because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19). Our very desire for and capacity to love is a responsive one, originating in God’s love.

Feeling hungry for that unknown “more” today? That’s a gift from God given to you to draw you to Him. You can respond, calling on Him for forgiveness and for His love to speak perfect peace to your heart. “For He says, ‘In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.’ Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2 ESV).
